Kinglake, Victoria

#1 Post by greengreengrass » Mon Feb 09, 2009 7:48 pm

Some photos taken at Kinglake north of Melbourne this time last year, which has been devastated by fire. It was such a beautiful area...it's hard to imagine all the lives lost and the wildlife and trees and property destroyed. It's just heartbreaking to see the people on televsion who have lost their families and homes etc.

Below is the famous Bottle House and Windmill at Kinglake...they were built in the early seventies by a Dutch man....almost 13,000 bottles in the house and about 5,000 in the windmill. Inside is the most amazing collection of bottles and fossils etc., I'm wondering if it will have survived the wildfires....thousands of people visit it every year.

Let us hope and pray that the worst of the fire is over.....and that there will be no more loss of life.

beautiful photos ggg.....would like to think that wee house survived...but..
its terrible, the tragic lose of life in Austrailia - my heart goes out to them. And from reports on Sky News it is hard to believe that some fires were started deliberatly (sp), arsonists
