We were wrong about the lady being Mrs O'Hare - it IS Mrs. Connelly, Rita's mother - seems she was one of the tea-ladies.

8-2-1951 Newry Reporter

Warrenpoint Re-union

A re-union of the members of the Catholic Social Centre Dramatic Troupe, following their recent successful pantomime "Jack and the Beanstock"(original spelling) took place in the Osborne Hotel, Warrenpoint, upwards of 100 members and friends attending.
Following supper, which was presided over by the chairman of the centre and joint producer of the pantomime, Mr. Frank J. Hanna, a musical programme was contributed by members of the troupe. A dance followed.
Mrs. Gerry Hughes and Miss Jean Greenhill (the accompanists), Messrs. Terry Grant, William McKinley and Bobbie Reoch supplied the music for the dancing.

The panto years

#48 Post by mcelaura » Tue Nov 13, 2007 2:25 am

I have posted elsewhere on site (I don't know where) that the first
pantomime party, a great event, was held in the Alexandra Hotel, which
was a very up-front venue. It's nice to remember also that EVERY
member of the cast, from the oldest to the youngest, was indivuadly
presented with a gift on finale night (the value of the presents mirrored
the height of stardom) and EVERY member got applause on presentation.
I got a half pound tin of Sharp's toffies.

Panto years

Above was obviously the first panto but I remember the introduction to
the third one which Jack May wrote:

"You've seen the growing beanstalk,
Cinderella's coach and four.
Now come and see King Neptune
As he walks the ocean floor."

that would be here:

If my memory serves, in later years one of the Prescott's owned the Alexandria? (Roy & Robins father) I seem to remember that being mentioned to me. Also, I was told that the old dance floor was left in place and was either part of the floor in one of the flats or was discovered under it. My grandfather also played there with the Blue Rhythm band.
