Hello,

I am trying to find information on the Dowd family. There were five sons, James,Thomas,William,George, John and one daughter, Mary Ann(May). From what I have ben able to gather so far, John Dowd worked on the Warrenpoint train system and retired in 1964(?). Not sure on when he died. William died in 1978 and May died in 1994. Can anyone advise the best way to find death notices for them? Many thanks and regards.

I have also had a similar enquiry on Facebook from an Ed O'Brien (any connection?) anyway same answer, the public records office in Belfast would have something - also possibly the newspapers such as the Belfast telegraph or Newry reporter (Google proni and or the papers for contact details) some searches are free but there may be charges on others.

Hello Brian,

I sent an email to the Newry Reporter yesterday as you suggested. I received a response from Paul Welsh of the Newry Reporter who let me know their archives are not open to the public.
He suggested I try the Newry Library. I did notice there was a forum between a gentleman named Eugene and Dukestreet from several years back that spoke directly of John, William(Billy) and Mary Ann(May) Dowd. I made an inquiry with Eugene but he was unable to help but quite kind. What happened to James and George remains a mystery. Thomas died in 1959.
I appreciate you responding in any event. If in future anything comes your way on the Dowd's from Milltown Road, Burren, Warrenpoint I would be quite grateful. Thanks and regards.
