Hi everyone,
Thank you to the Old Warrenpoint forum Board for letting me become a member of this fantastic website. My name is Margaret Hickman nee Grogan I used to live at Cornwall Villa, Lower dromore road. I went to the Dromore Road primary school and Warrenpoint Technical College. Looking through this website I feel like I have been down Memory Lane. I can put a lot of names to the photos and will do at a later date. I lived in Warrenpoint from 1940 till 1959. I was 19years old when I left for Manchester. I am still in contact with Margaret Orr nee Sterritt , Deidre Linden nee Mckevitt, Elizabeth McClelland nee Heykman. My sister Betty who married Dermot Boylan died in June 2002. Brian is now 81years and lives in Manchester with his family. Denny is 86 years fit as a fiddle and lives in Gloucester.
Hope I can fill in some blanks in future messages.
Love to all. Margaret Hickman.

Margaret nice to know you found the Forum.
It keeps us "exes" in touch with our
Town that we left so many years ago.
I remember you and Margaret Sterritt
very well.
You were always together, best of friends.
My brother, Jim Mackrell, went to the
Tech same time as you.
I emigrated to Canada in 1964 and have been
living in Ontario for 52 years.
Don't know if you would remember me
Jim's sister Maureen.
My married name is Magill and married to
Don.
Looking forward to you posting again.

Great to "see" you here, Margaret. I remember you from those wonderful, innocent days in Warrenpoint. Like Maureen, I am another one of those exes who left the Point so long ago and have found this forum a welcome haven. I look forward to your posts.

Hello Margaret and welcome to the Warrenpoint Forum!
I remember visiting the Grogan family in Cornwall Villa with my mother all those years ago but I was more interested in getting outside to the orchard!
We would take the occasional walk down from Lower Dromore Road.
The Villa has undergone few changes since your day but still very recognizable.

I hope you enjoy the forum ....there is a lot to see and read!!

Eugene McCann.

Hello Margaret,
Welcome to this wonderful forum that means so much to those of us who were lucky enough to have grown-up in that lovely place, but who have spent many years away, (in my case almost 50 years).
I often gathered chestnuts from the trees at your gate. (Having never sought permission, can I now belatedly thank you.)

thank you all for the welcome to THE FORUM.
Yes I do remember you Maureen and your brother Jim. We had wonderful times at the Tech.
I have been to Canada and had a wonderful train ride from Toronto to Vancouver. I have a cousin in Mission City near to you George. It is so nice to hear from old friends.
Love Margaret. x

Margaret, nice to hear from you.
I have a cousin in Vancouver but
have never been to that part of
Canada.
I forgot to mention in my earlier
post, that I worked with Margaret
and her sister Joy in Reeds.
Hope they are both doing well.

I'm sure you will enjoy the Forum
as much as I have over the years.

Maureen

Hi Margaret, Claire Clemo lives twenty minutes from me. We were in Mc Loughlin.s class. Have tried to contact her with no luck. She will not answer the door. Neighbours say she is eccentric. She is well known in the here. No telephone listed.

This site is fantastic!
Eugene I'm afraid Cornwall Villa has been knocked down and a beautiful 2 storey house erected on the
same site. Electronic gates installed. So sad to say part of my idyllic childhood has been obliterated.
Maureen my dear friend Margaret and I are still in contact. we have been friends since we first started school. Sad to say Joy is now in St. Josephs nursing home she has difficulty walking.
Peter you were one of dozens of boys who came to get the chestnuts it was great fun wasn't it. I think I climbed every tree around Cornwall Villa. Such memories!
George Claire Clemo unfortunately has very poor health. I phone her frequently as we are her only family left. She was a teacher all her working life and devoted her life to it.
I must mention my husband of 55 years. He was a fire officer in Manchester Fire and Rescue for 30 years. We have travelled the world over our married life. We have 2 children and 4 Grand children. Our daughter Suzanne has 2 girls and our son Simon has 2 boys. Simon retires from the Fire Service in October. This is all for now. XX

Hi Margaret, I delivered groceries to Cornwall Villa. It was mystical place. I will not attempt to disturb Claire. She was a beautiful girl in grade 4 and deserves her peace and quiet.

Lovely to hear from you Rosaleen. I remember meeting up with you on one of my trips home.
We met up at a restaurant on the Newry Road with quite a few of my friends. We had a great time that night. I'm now going to go on the photos of Mrs Troddens choir as I can remember all the names. But don't ask me what happened last week.
Margaret. X

Hi George
This is just to let you know Claire Clemo died on the 3rd July.
Yes I believe she was quite eccentric. She has been unwell for a few years.
but it was nice of you to take time out to visit her even if she didn't answer the door.
Hope your keeping well. Frank and I have just celebrated out 55th wedding anniversary.

Hi George.
Denny is going to Warrenpoint on 29th August and was wondering if your sister Babs is still alive.
He is taking 2 of his grandchildren with him to show them where he was brought up.
