Well this might be stretching it a bit but using the RichieMac rules of association, sub-section IIIa, paragraph 27,...this is me with .....ahem....President McAleese, The 1st and Deputy 1st Ministers, Bono and the boys, Gay Byrne......to name but a few.. ! :rotfl:

Seriously though, great to see that video Richard and what a wonderful group ! :-):-) :-):-)

The geezer on the right scored the winning goal for Arsenal in the 1970-71 FA CUP Final........ The one and only Charlie George !

Hi Murphy,

The Photo was taken last year up in the Directors box at the Emirates Stadium in London. The Emirates is in Ashburton Grove and replaced Highbury as the home of Arsenal but it is literally just round the corner.

I was in London and was intending to do the stadium tour whilst there as its really good and takes you into every corner including the dressing rooms and to pitch side but occasionally one of the former Arsenal players is available to take them and as luck would have it the one and only Charlie George was taking one around the time I was there so I made sure I was on it.

He is a lovely guy and I got speaking to him for ages. He comes across as a real maverick and is not at all bitter about the money that today's players earn. He just says it would have been nice ! He left Arsenal under a bit of a cloud to go to Derby County in the early seventies and I asked him why. He said it was because he couldn't stand Bertie Mee and the feeling was mutual ! They had different ideas on discipline I think.

His idea of a post match celebration was to jump into the post match bath with a beer and a cigar !

After quitting football he went down the traditional route and bought an east end pub and run it for a lot of years but eventually sold up as it was losing money and after that he got back into contact with Arsenal who took him on doing tours, hospitality , and match day stuff. He is one of a number of ex players from that era who Arsenal look after to an extent.

It seems a long time since his era when he grew up beside the ground and walked from his own house to training! Anyway the staff all seem to love him and all had a word as he went past.

When he heard my accent he mentioned that his best mate from his playing days was Sammy Nelson from over here and that they were still close. He had sort of looked out for Sammy when he first came over to London way back.

Anyway it was nice to meet somebody so iconic given the circumstances of that final but he had absolutely no airs and graces.

:-):-)

:rotfl: :rotfl: Very good Pat! Paragraph 27 also clearly states if you are a McGivern you can stretch it as far as you like....so we're safe!

Hi Richie, can I steal your pic and put it on facebook for my son and his friends as they are all growing moustaches for 'Movember' in order to raise money for research into prostate cancer?

If it's ok, then thanks so much.

Geraldine.

That's it........couldn't think last night! Actually, he was great craic. He did the official opening of one of our Ideal Homes exhibitions...in Waterford I think. It was on a Friday night and I was shattered as I'd only got back from Australia the day before (hence the tan!). We worked 6 till 10 and then partied for the rest of the night, with Brian Murphy in fine vocal form......needless to say we were all dying on the Saturday, me more than most as I was a bit jet-lagged too! Wouldn't have the energy for it now, but they were great oul' days! :>
