A good head for heights (View from the spire)

#1 Post by Brian » Tue Aug 19, 2014 3:54 pm

Thanks to Canon Kearney for inviting me up to the top of the scaffolding to get a few pictures for the forum. A real once in a lifetime opportunity and I can now add my own name to the list of people who can now say "they were up there" and, also just to mention all regulations were complied with and all permissions sought and approved before we went up. and just finally we also climbed up as the lift was not operational (so somehow I think I will sleep tonight) zz:zz

Good man Brian and fair play to the Canon for making that climb, one step closer to Heaven for both of you :-):-)

Fantastic photos Brian! You're a braver man than me. I have no head for heights, and even the thought of being up there makes me a bit quesy.

Well done Brian, you beat me to it. I may be up there soon myself but I'd give these the Forum Photo's of the Year Award! :no1:
As you said, it's probably a once in a lifetime opportunity, great weather and angles and views of the town rarely seen.
Here, have another trophy! :first:

I hope you left your signature somewhere up there Canon, mine is in the belfry carved into the lead from about 1947, don`t tell anyone, the belfry was out of bounds for altar boys ::-((

Brian - great photos.
I take it you are not afraid of
heights.
Beautiful day by the looks of it.

Fair play to you Brian and Canon Kearney....obviously men of great faith ! There is no way I would go up there....cleaning leaves from gutters is about my limit as far as climbing ladders goes. Great photos and well worth the effort !

How the heck did you manage to go to that height, after all you were the one that didn't like climbing trees?

Well done mate and great photos

I don't like heights at all - but this was an opportunity too good to miss and as I said I had asked for permission, so if I refused I was going to look rather silly :D So, up I went - I've a few more from inside the chapel I will post them now.

Great photos Brian..............RESPECT!
Heights don't bother me........Sydney Harbour Bridge, hot air balloons etc., but sadly arthritic knees impede my velocity somewhat now! These have to go down as some of the best yet on the forum............well done. :genius:

northbrook..........never had you down as a graffiti artist!!
Initial reaction............shock, horror
Ten seconds later............good onya

(can't help wonderin' if my much-loved, dear-departed husband was around...........though I don't imagine he was ever an altar-boy, so it's probably highly unlikely!) ;)

Brian - more great photos.
What a pity they didn't take time to
cover things, especially the Statues
from all that mess.

Thanks to Cathal McAnulty for this photo that shows (in the distance) myself the Canon and two workmen at the top of the spire - does not look to bad from this angle - I think.
