Hi everyone,

My name is Aaron O'Hare, some of you may know me as Martin O'Hare's son ( Mace/Xtra-Vision) etc.

Im currently in Derry at the University of Ulster, Studying Music in my Final Year, Specializing in Composition and Performance (Classical Baritone)

The reason I've come to this forum (besides it being pretty fascinating) is to ask for your help.

For my final composition assignment, I want to compose an orchestral piece of music (lasting in and around 10 minutes) inspired by Warrenpoint and how it has changed over the years. Looking through a lot of the photographs on the site, it seems like it has changed drastically through the years (and probably not for the best).

I'm pretty sure ive got an idea of how i want the music to sound for the ending sections, (which would represent warrenpoint today), but I wonder if some of you could leave a post, or send me an e-mail, just describing the point in the earlier years, general life, festivals, tourists, events, business etc.

Any funny stories about the town are also welcome!

Any information given is greatly appreciated, hopefully you'll be helping the creation of O'Hare Symphony no.1 (Scary!!), or at least that's the plan :)

My e-mail is : ohare-a2@email.ulster.ac.uk

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi Aaron, Martin's son? at Uni? *feels old* :-(

Anyway, I'm sure if you spend some time reading the posts in the various sections you should get a feel of things - a lot of the music through the years is covered in the bands and entertainment section - There are a lot of musicians around here and many use the forum so should be able to give you a few pointers :D

There certainly looks like it! I had no idea that Silver bands and Flute bands had such a big part in town life! i am fascinated by the pictures from the town in the 1920s, and the amount of people around the baths in the past.....

Its great to see, and very inspiring!!

'A lot of musicians' is cutting it fine, I have traveled a mile or two on many continents, seen every kind of musical festival, Mariachi being the favorite (ask CD) but nowhere has as many and diverse musicians as the 'Point. I think there is more Silver in the 'Point than the mines in Tombstone. When you write your piece, think about a Warrenpoint orchestra to perform it.
Dunno why the world is not Knee Deep in W'point talent. Murphy. (forgot my password again)
