I'm considering switching back to BT for phone and broadband.
Do any of you use them and if so how do you rate their equipment and support?
Any information appreciated, cheers.

Well, I did have trouble with them recently (after almost 20 years of trouble free use) But having recently made the switch to fibre optic broadband (currently only available in certain areas of the town and for BT customers only) I am staying put as I must say I am very impressed with the speed (up from 7.5Mbps to 38Mbps download and from .5Mbps to 8Mbps upload) in real terms that is a 350Mb TV show downloaded in about 1 minute 20 seconds :D Nobody else can offer that speed around here so I'm sticking to BT.

Well Ritchiemac, I would consider Brian the expert here, I would be big time luddite....
am with BT for both...switched phone one time to Talk Talk...nightmare.
BT can drive you nuts sometimes when you try to speak to people you can't understand...is it ok to write this in public??? Anyway..we are still with BT...see if you can get a "deal".

I made the switch from BT to SKY at the beginning of this year.......wish I'd done it earlier!
I found BT very expensive.
If you subscribe to SKY TV, I would consider going for one of their TV/Broadband/phone packages.
I am well pleased with my package...and saving a lot!!

I switched from BT to sky a few years ago and never had one problem with sky ever. No random charges or massive bills for over usage and I think i use the net more now. No disconnecting or having to call them every day with a problem. BT where such a headache I went through hell with probs with them. I wouldnt ever go back near them again.

Hi folks. Sitting here waiting for the storm to leave me in darkness[the Ards peninsula is notorious for this] i have just seen this thread. I am with BT for approx 1 year now and have never had any problems with them other than last week when the major fault in Edinburgh left us all off the air. This was a big contrast from AOL whom i had been with previous for quite a time, even from the days of the old Dial Up. I am interested Brian to know how your fibre optic system is working, I have just ordered it from BT and they are due to install it on Wednesday 24th Donaghaguy[Wim]

In a word Wim, brilliant - apart from the speed it also did not seem to be affected with the outage last week (and indeed this week) can't rate it highly enough :D Being able to watch BBCi iplayer HD at any time of the day is great - although I must say I am a bit miffed with iplayer at the moment, as the service seems to be getting worse... although that's nothing to do with BT though.

Brian

Do you know what areas of the town are covered by the fibreoptic network?

Cheers

Eúnan

Hi Eúnan, as far as I know you can check if it is available in your area at this link

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=29017&s_cid=con_FURL_infinity

Not everywhere is available and some places are experiencing a few technical "glitches" but most of the town should be covered by January (I think)

I'm with Skytalk/Broadband/TV and am very pleased with the package I have. It includes free calls to 20 countries including free to USA and Canada mobiles (cellphones).

With regards Broadband, all I know is that I switch on the computer and it works!! Never really download anything much, but they boast a good technical support.

A good all round package and not too difficult to get to talk to a human being if you have a problem.
