local artist copies self portrait

#1 Post by Brian » Fri Jan 22, 2016 1:12 am

Two paintings of the same person.

One is the original and the other by a local artist (guess who)

Also, Who can tell the difference and who is the subject of the self portrait?

The subject is Rembrandt, his self-portrait
is the top one.

The artist responsible for the second one...
I'll have a guess at Nick Purdy.

Rembrandt Van Rijn. I've seen quite a bit of his work in the Mauritshuis Museun in Den Haag. Quite a lot of stuff by Jonannes Vermeer in there too (our biggest lives about 10 miles away).

Always amazes me as to the quality and detail in the paintings - some paintings of silverware actually looks just like a photograph - and these were painted about 400 years ago.

No idea who the local artist is, but it's a good likeness! (Top is original!)

Two terrific paintings of the
same person.

The 2nd one is different, whereas
the face is fuller.

Would it be as Tony said, Nick Purdy?
