Hi Fran, and welcome aboard 8)

It's a bit quiet around these parts this time of year (holidays and all that) but feel free to ask any questions (in the right sections of course  ) and we will try and help. Try to give a little bit of info when asking questions, such as where they lived (if known) any relative dates or other bits of info you may have. :)

There are still plenty of Fearon's and Trainors about in the 'point and rostrevor, so you never know what we could find.

Hi Fran:
I posted some info for you under the genealogy section. http://www.oldwarrenpointforum.com/phpB ... ?p=693#693

Take a look and see if it is of any help. Another site that you should check is Ros Davies' which has extensive material for all of Down. Here are some Fearons. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com ... Fearon.htm

Good luck!

Hi Everyone,

What a wonderful site! And what a charming place to live!

My GGgrandparents and beyond came from Newry in the 1800's and I think I have found my GGGGgranddad in Warrenpoint..(will post in ancestry forum about that). I also have other sets of GG and GGG grandparents from Killinchey in Co Down, so have a fair bit of the Irish in me. I am from Hampshire UK and run a charity for kids with autistic communication difficulties. Ive been researching for 2 years and have gone back to 1500 in Stafford with my maiden surname.

Nice to "meet you all". I would like to congratulate you on your site, its a marvellous resource. I thoroughly enjoyed looking through the old pics last night, the scenery in Warrenpoint is the stuff of oil paintings! Idyllic! :D

B

Hi there and welcome to the <s>madhouse</s> forum 8)

It's a little quiet at the moment, as most of our members are on holiday although I do think one or two of them have found internet cafes, as i see them "lurking" every now and again  We will do our best to find out anything we can, in the meantime enjoy your stay 8)

Aha! So that's why it has been a little slow, Brian. I just got back from a trip east to Virginia and took in some Civil War battlefields and other historical sites. Driving through the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia was beautiful but I have to agree with Bondgirl (love that name by the way) that it is hard to beat the scenery around the Point and Rostrevor. While living there, I never really appreciated how beautiful the area was, "where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea."

And welcome Bondgirl! You will love this site and the great people on it.

Pat

I think yerman Percy got his inspiration for the "sweep down to the sea" line more over towards Attical and Kilkeel. (picture needed), Though maybe he was just looking for a catchy word.

Not to detract from the 'point area.
"more beautiful than the bay of Naples" so Miss McLaughlin said a sea captain told her.

And it is, I've had a look

Well, the story goes he wrote that when lodging in the end house in Cloughmore terrace, his view then would have been unrestricted by many tall buildings (the Northern Bank was not there) so it is possible. Although there is no plaque or anything on the wall to confirm this, maybe somebody from the historical society could verify? (I know some of them are Reading this, just nobody seems to want to come forward yet  )

anyway, completely the wrong perspective, but a picture anyway

Thought I better put something in here about myself now.
I am a Larmour, born in Warrenpoint but now living in Corby in England. Since tracing my family I have discovered I am related to half (well maybe not quite) of the people in Warrenpoint. I have met lots of wonderful people on this site who know of my family and they have all been so nice. It has also been wonderful to see pictures of family members that I never had the pleasure of meeting.
Linda.

Hello all, I heard about this site whilst getting my head shaved in Darren Tohills gents Barber shop on summerhill. My name is Ruairi Heatley originally from Springfield road, hence the username. I now live with my other half and wee daughter Tara in the Bridal Hil. Am very intersted in Music and Martial Arts and things to do with Warrenpoint.

I think Brian might know me???

Just registered. Have I the unpronouncable name? It is the initials of my
christian names and the name my family calls me.

I have no viagra or real estate and little else that anyone would want to
buy so I won't be doing any selling!

An old timer, I've lived in Warrenpoint all my life. Having moved house
recently, I've only yesterday got my computer connected again and the
first site I visited was this one. I haven't left it since! It is a real pleasure.

Thank you to the creators and the members for providing such a look at
the past. I look forward to being able to make a contribution, in some
small measure, when I can.

Good luck.

Hi MC and welcome. You seem to be of my vintage (judging from your postings) and I have been scratching this poor old head trying to figure out who you may be. I need more clues. :? :(

Hullo mcelaura, your recollections are like manna from Heaven. Anything from the past, photo's, newspaper clippings, stories about 'Point people. Please stick them on here, before they get lost, and there will be people out there who will be forever indebted to you.
The period I am most interested in, is anything pre-1970 to way -way back, sorry to the younger site watchers.
This is a fabulous way of keeping the history of the town alive, future generations will thank us. We probably won't be around, but nevertheless please keep adding to the site.
