An early photo of the Park.

Can anyone put a year on it?

Between 1907 and 1910 (being as the tennis courts are not there yet) :D

Quote:
From the minutes of the Urban District Council Warrenpoint

14th March 1910
“That one plot lying next to the Great Northern Hotel be taken in hands this season, and the necessary work carried out by a committee as soon as possible for the purpose of a tennis court in the park”

Thanks, Brian.

Out of interest....was the area landscaped
before the Council leased it?

I can't seem to find any information as to
what was there, prior to it becoming the
Municipal Park.

As far as I know it was just land - basically a field used by excursion groups etc.

Brian,

Just came on a photo posted 7 years ago
by Eddie Mackin showing the land from
way back.

Nice friendly notice saying Tresspassers
will be prosecuted.!

Appears to have been landscaped.

If its the one I'm thinking of, that's the park under construction - there is another one somewhere of the chapel taken from the field I'll see if I can find it
