Thanks to xpat for helping me to correctly identify this aircraft as a 'CASA 253' of the Irish Air Corp ( I incorrectly thought it was a variation of a Hercules).

Apologies for the grainy images in some shots....it's not easy to capture fast moving aircraft and I must remember to turn off 'digital zoom' on my compact !

Added a few more.

A lot of standing around waiting for the display to start but worth it in the end. The noise of that Vulcan bomber will stay with me for some time! Amazing aircraft but at times I found myself thinking about the reality behind some of those fighters and bombers. Thankfully the Vulcan never had to carry out its original role...that is to carry nuclear weapons to drop on the Soviets had they attacked...I have of course a very personal reason to be thankful for that :D

Saw some irate local residents arguing the bit out with the traffic wardens who were having a field day ticketing cars outside their houses. Massive crowd (estimated at 100,000) and the free park and ride service from the Castlewellan Road is to be recommended if you plan to go next year.

Love the pics of the Vulcans.

Back in the late 1950's I had
a summer job in Poynton,
Cheshire just a mile from
the Vulcan's base.

The noise of them taking off
all day long was extraordinary,
not easily forgotten, I agree.

Great pictures. :clapping:
