Well (well, well!!!)...........you learn something every day...........never thought about the origin of the 'Well Road'..............my education has been sadly neglected! Thank you northbrook for that information..........and of course thank you Hugh, my brother-in-law, for asking a question which never occurred to me in over forty four years living in one of the most beautiful places in the world!

Was interrupted there by a call from Bryan Jnr. in Sydney and was telling him about the post I was in the middle of. Having lived in an apartment in Rosemount on the Well Road a few years ago, needless to say he was quite interested, but thought 'The Well' was somewhere near there, on the side of the road..........and of course his other theory was the more obvious one, that the Well Road was so called because the people who lived there were Well To Do...........which (with the exception of the aforesaid son!) goes without saying................ but however, I assured him that in my humble opinion, our esteemed and much revered member northbrook was most probably correct and I would go with his theory until such times as I had proof to the contrary!!

I never realised either, where the
Well, in the Well Rd. originated from.
Northbrook - is Harty's close to the
shore, or further back.

It's not that far from the shore

http://goo.gl/maps/iPhnm

That link will take you to a Google maps street view of the area.

This thread also shows the location of a few other springs

So that's why it was (maybe still is) called "The Well House", whenever I delivered the mail there...
