Was this the same Frank Burns who drove for McAnulty's and who lived on Church Street? Eamonn Burns was a later born son, I guess.

Sorry Duke St..I meant to leave a reply to this post when it appeared.
I don't think I can remember Frank and Eamonn's father ;--) ,does anyone have an idea of when he died?I do remember their mother having tearooms next to Haverns shop, where Delilites is now.
It's sad to think of their little sister dying at the age of three but I notice they had an older sister called Brenda..........I don't think I ever heard her mentioned before ;--)

I remember Mr Burns very well but then I'm a bit ahead of you Joanne. He drove a taxi for McAnultys.

I think the daughter's name was Breda not Brenda. Will check that out and come back on it.

Just talked to Aunt Molly Southwell and she confirmed that the name was Breda. Then looked back on the obit and it said Breda. Not sure about Brenda, just a slip of the finger maybe.

Anyhow, she also told me that sadly Breda died young too. Eamon must have been born after the girls. I'LL talk more with AM later.

In and around 1967/68 the powers that be decided that children from the Forth Road / Iveagh Avenue area merited bus transport to school [Star of the Sea/St Peter's, particularly during the winter mornings]There was a substantial gathering of us,the boarding point was outside the late Seamus Larmour's house in the square [Forth Avenue], I am sure the late Mr Frank Burn's snr was our Bus Driver.

Yep you have got it right JH 1967 and the late Frank Burns snr was the bus driver i remember one of his wonderful sayings while we were on the bus it had been a dark morning and the cars had lights on(only a few cars about then) as we turned out of forth ave Johnny Campbell drove past with one of his head lights out Frank turned round to us all and said "Car with one eye" i remember the whole bus in laughter. The Burns family plot is beside my mums grave in Burren.

According to the Death Register in St. Peter's Pastoral Centre, Frank Burns, of Church Street, died on 9th August, 1970, he was aged 70.

He was one of the drivers who took us to football matches all over the county, when we were schoolboys, playing for St. Peters.
He was a very civil man, but I heard it from a good source, that the late Mr. Burns was a "good chase," when his door was rapped at night by young rascals, up to 'a bit of divilment'.
He would be on their trail of the doorknockers all night.

I never knew the Burns family lived in East Street.

Remeber the Burns' family very well.
How sad to think they lost a child
at such an early age.
I didn't know that until now.
I remember Mr. Burns driving his
Taxi.
He wasn't that old when he died.
