will race from the beach at Warrenpoint around Gannaway rock and back

I assume the beach beside the baths. Ian was to get back to me with more info but I have heard nothing ~x(

Have just read an advertisement for a previous Gannaway swim which states that it is a
3.5 km swim, with the competitors to check in at the bathing area on Killowen Road, Rostrevor
before the swim to Warrenpoint's Gannaway Rock. Can anyone confirm if this is right....

It may have been my younger sister Ruth, she's used to people calling her Liz, but as she's a couple of years younger than me it doesn't do her any favours. :rotfl:

I assume that would have been the Rostrevor to Gannaway swim? In the past there have been various "swims" organised, including an Omeath to Gannaway one, a Warrenpoint to Rostrevor one, and all points in between. This swim is bringing back an original one from (I think) Victorian times that was from the baths to the rock and back again.

In the past we also had regatta's (remember the article from 1846 http://www.oldwarrenpointforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1950) and power boat races - something that could (and should) come back again.

I can't wait to see the picture that will be taken. Good luck to all the swimmers in volved.
As i know if my uncle peter Ohare from the Glenmore was a live today he would be one of those swimmers.

Happy Fathers day to all
