Remember the Garage very well
in Summerhill.
Had to pass it every a.m. going
to Work.
Was his name Jimmy Rogers?
Tommy Magill (RIP) worked there
before he emigrated to the States.

Remember the garage as a child when we were living at 48 Great Georges Street. The bottom of our back garden was at the side of the garage. If I remember correctly Paddy Magill and Jimmy Murphy served their time there.

Also Susan (McClorey) Rodgers gave my brother Colin a small tyre - it was probably used in an advertisement/promotion. He still has this tyre, he took it to Canada with him.

Good memories, good people.

Valerie - I knew his first name was
Jimmy.
Didn't remember his last name.
He used to ride a Motor Cycle.
The girl's name was Susan McGovern,
now married to Michael Magill.
Yes Paddy did work there as well as
Tommy.

I remember Jimmy Rodgers very well. He had a good voice singing his favourite song "I'm sending you a big bouquet of roses". Long time ago.

I said Rodgers first, then Valerie said Murphy.

Yes, xpaddy

I think there were two Jimmys. Jimmy Murphy eventually worked for Paddy Magill when Paddy had his own business - Central Service Station. Jimmy also helped McGiverns with the amusements. He then had his own garage business for a while.

I remember Michael Magill and that he married Susan McGovern.

I think I am right in saying though that Jimmy Rodgers (of the garage on Summerhill) was married to Susan McClorey. I will check with my brother as he would know better than me.

Valerie - I can't place Jimmy Rodgers at all.

Joanne - Knew Susan was related to someone
in the Garage, but didn't know what way.

Yes, Jimmy married Susan Mc Clorey....wasn't she
Frank Mc Clorey's sister? [ Frank who had the Central
Service Station before Paddy Magill.]

Jim Rice (rostrevor) was the other Jim. Paddy White & his brother Sean (nephews of Jimmy Rodgers)from Greencastle serve their time there .

From recollection I think that Central Service Station was previously owned by John McClorey from Rostrevor..There was also an owner of CSS but not sure if before or after John McClorey. His surname was Brown and he was married to Ruby McCullough from Trevor Lodge Rostrevor. Frank McClorey was in partnership with (Joe ???) Sherry in the hardware business known as McClorey & Sherry.

I believe this is correct. John was also an avid golfer and he married May Ward who taught at St. Mary's Boys" School in Rostrevor.

Isn't it amazing how a photo of an oil can has generated so much reflection? Great.

Think we have sorted out that Susan McClorey was married to Jimmy Rodgers. My brother Colin said this too when I was talking to him the other night.

Joanne,
Colin thinks the same as you regarding Susan McGovern - that Susan McClorey was her aunt, so that's probably how Xpaddy made the connection with the garage.

Yes, this oil can has certainly got us all thinking and reminiscing.
