Hi Pauline Reardon. You were wondering who was with Bertha Edgar[nee McCoy] in that photograph that your sister Kathleen is in. Picture is not too clear but it does look like Margaret Goucher on the inside and on the outside is Emma Grace Baird[ Mrs William McCoy Jnr] Forth Road and mother of Garfield, Gail, Amanda and the late Vernon. She was a lovely lady who was a very good friend to my mother after i left home in 1960 and she was on her own. I do not go home very often even though its only about an hour and a half drive time, however two weeks ago i went down and visited the graves at Clonallon and also Dromore Road School. When coming out of the Diamonds Restaurant i met Amanda[now McCullagh] and was pleased to find she has called her daughter Emma after her mother. I tell you now your part of the road has changed and its not so easy to find old landmarks. But to an old guy like me Jack White's corner will always be Jack White's corner.

Hello Wim, Of course it is Emma - I should have recognised her. As you say she was a really lovely lady and had lovely children. I had wanted the two girls to be bridesmaids for me when I got married but my husband (now) got a crash draft to Singapore with the RN and that put paid to my great wedding plans. Really quick one the the Royal Marines Church in Portsmouth and we were off. Was so sorry to hear about Vernon. I was home for Kathleen's daughters wedding a couple of years ago and Warrenpoint has indeed changed but still a beautiful place.
Pauline :--)

On the unknown bandsman - I have spoken to Kathleen and she said that he did not have to be a regular member of WSB. If they were short in a particular section they called in guys from the band in Rathfriland. He may just have been there on that occasion.

Lowflier - I thought that was who you were.
Were you the youngest of the McCoys?
It's not that Don has a bad memory, he is
just not as good at names and faces as I am.
He hasn't played the guitar in a while.
We started a band in the 70's and played until
the late 80's.
It was a great time for us. :--)

Hi Xpaddy

No I wasn't the youngest I was the 11 th out of 12, not bad.
I know how it is i'm the same with names.
I know the face but not the name, especially the Greek names.
Who knows he might make a comeback with a group and be the oldest swinger
in town.
Is Bobby and his wife out there with you?

Lowflier - No Kathleen and Bobby live in Warrenpoint.
Bobby was in Canada for 5 months in 1978, but I think
it was a busy lifestyle for him to get used to.
He has been back a few times since then, and of course
I go back there to see them. :--)

Hi lowflier. Albert i knew you would never stick the heat of Ballyclare and it was only a matter of time before you moved to somewhere "cool" like Cyprus. If you ever come accross an old acquaintance of mine called Jimmy Carroll say Hi to him for me, i don't know if he is still out there. Have you looked in the section on this Forum called "Down Memory Lane" and scrolled down to the thread called June 1953 you will see yourself and the rest of us hoods down at the Dock Wall. I only go down about three times a year to visit Jean and Robert[he was 83 last Friday]. I tried the dying thing myself in 2007[the usual Wilson thing-heart attack] but the wife was too quick for me and called an ambulance and i wound up 7 weeks in the Ulster Hospital before i was moved to the RVH for three weeks and a triple bypass. Maybe i'll have better luck next time. Talk to you soon again.

Hi,
Going back to the first photo of Warrenpoint Silver Band. That is, the one with the alphabet used to identify each member.
Beside the letter "U" it shows John Cunningham, in actual fact it is my father, Willie McGuffin. He usually played side drum but I do recall him telling me that on occasion he had played the "big drum" too.
Good pix, all of them.
Thanks,
Colin McGuffin

I had another look at that myself and agree one hundred per cent, although John Cunningham did play Bass Drum occasionally.............it`s interesting to see my old neighbour Jack Brown (W) standing beside your father.......Jack was to go on and become the regular Bass Drummer in the band for many years, and a good one at that ...........................

HI Uncle Albert - good to hear that you are alive and kicking in Cyprus. Perhaps will call over to see you some of these days.

All - I was the first female member of Warrenpoint Silver Band in 1973. I would love a photograph of me in the band if anyone has any as I am writing a book?

Hi Karnen

Nice to hear from you but less of the uncle !!!!
Really sorry but I have no band photographs when you
were in it. I have plenty of photos before I had left the band
in 1968 but no photos since then.
Look forward to reading your book and maybe seeing you here sometime.

I have this photo which I'm pretty sure I downloaded from here - I've never been on the Silver band's own site.
