I can't speak for the chamber, but from my own view the "hobby horses" have been in the square for over 100 years - the square was NEVER meant to be a car park and again, in my own view it should be reverted back to what it was originally designed for and that was a public meeting place and market. (did the "new" masterplan not already mention that?) How about the car owners who use it as a "park and ride" facility to go to Newry park around the front instead? would it be that hard to get the buses to drive around that way (and have a bus stop at the car park) or is that just too easy?

Another point I have made on this is the wind - the square is relatively sheltered and the machinery can operate in fairly windy conditions safely, but around the front there are no wind breaks and I could easily see some health and safety issues arising meaning some machines could not operate.

I can't speak either on behalf of the residents in that area but I would be firmly for keeping the amusements in the square. as mentioned, its only for a few weeks a year and despite what some people would say they do attract people in. Take them away and people will simply drive on through down to Newcastle.

Well said Brian. The amusements should stay in the Square.

The Square and the Amusements
go together.
I don't think moving them would
be a very good idea.

Well presented case, Brian.

Have the Council made public
their reasons for debating the
relocation of the Funfair.

Is this " change for the sake
of change."

Leave well enough alone.

Let the funfair stay in the square as it has been for a centuary, The council has taken enough out of warrenpoint ,remember we had a great swimming pool untill the council decided to make a paddleing pool many years ago thus leaving the point people without a pool, this would not happen in newry they have all the recreational facilities they need , so let the people of warrenpoint stand and say no to the relocation of the funfair.

Brian has saved me the trouble on this as i agree entirely ! The square is the home for the amusements and catches the eye of passing traffic. It is the focus of the town for the few weeks that it is there. The alternative option isn't suitable because of the proximity of housing and the likelihood of high winds. I hate the phrase but this is seriously a no-brainer. Leave well alone and for all those that complain about the loss of car parking spaces in the square it isn't too far to an alternative is it really and that includes the proposed new space for the amusements which makes the proposal all the more ridiculous.
