In the very first photo standing to the right of Derek McKinley's drum, and in front of the bus is the famous Joe 'Jojo the German' Finnegan (wearing a flat cap) who resided down at St. Joseph's Home. Joe was mentioned on this site in the early days, and I had given up hope of ever seeing a photo of him ever again.
A harmless man, who was always good for a chase, back in the early 1960's when one shouted at him, 'Jojo the German.'

In he same photo on the other side of Derek McKinley, and also standing in front of the bus (he is a white haired man), is Francie McGivern who originally came from Boat Street in Newry, but who also resided in St. Joseph's Home.
Francie was always giving out little pieces of coal to all and sundry, as a bringer of good luck.

Splendid photo's Bernie, you have unearthed a few treasures here.

Well spotted, dukestreet - poor old Francie! He would run up to you & press the coal into your hand, "coal for luck, coal for luck" he would say. Another great Point character.
In the second photo, between Billy Howlett & Florrie O'Hanlon, is Jimmy O'Hare of Charlotte St.

Think you are right, NB (as usual) :D
I thought it was him when I saw Pic 2 and was sure after seeing the close up.
Good old Francie McGivern, one of the kindest souls ever. God rest you, Francie.

And BTQ, you sure have given the Forum a great boost with this treasure trove you have unearthed. Unfortunately I lost just about all old photos from home that I had during one of St. Louis' flooding situations. :-(

Beside Florrie is Maura Cowan, Billy Howlett
and Uncle Jimmy Dinsmore.
Looks like Seamus Gallagher behind
Billy.

SLG - sorry to hear about your photos
being lost.

Could be way off here, but the elderly man near the lamp post with the white hair makes me think of John Magennis, who was a resident in St. Josephs when I was a child. He was originally from Greenore/Carlingford area and regularly visited our house when we were very young. He had left a piano with us when he took up residence in the convent, and my Mum and Dad were very fond of him. A very quiet man who had an easy way with him. I do remember him being called 'The Ba Magennis'.

I think you are correct with John Magennis Charlotte Street, a frequent visitor to our house in those days also, indeed a quiet and inoffensive man ............

In the first pic I can see Walter Heaton and John (darter) Carr standing in front of the buses. Just as a matter of interest, can anyone name the four drummers ? ................................

I had another look at the top photo of he band playing in front of the buses. I only know two of the drummers in the front , Derek McKinley and Dominic (?) Bennett, who are the other two?
And over beside Walter Heaton, in front of the bus on the right, is that John (Darter) Carr?

I have not seen these photos before. Was thinking that on the second photo could the drummer
which can be seen over Teddy McNeil's right arm - as you look at photo - be Kevin (Fano)
Dinsmore? ~x(

Mags - Don was in the Band at that time,
and said Kevin and him are at the back
on the right side of the photo.
They are not visible.
