Brian - I was 19 years old,
and I still remember the Fire
very well.
Kathleen lived in Clermont Gds.
at the time, and I was staying over
there.
My bedroom was at the back of
the house.
I remember waking up to my room
lit up.
I got up and opened the window to
see what was going on, and I could
hear the crackling of the Fire.
It was a massive blaze.
Can't remember how it happened.

Sad looking site. But just like the Phoenix comes back bigger and stronger. Liked the old building - something traditional about it.

Some events are clearly remembered.
I have a clear recollection of driving
down to look at the carnage the
following morning.

Sad sight. :-(

Although I was living in Clermont Gardens and our house backed onto the Meeting House
which is next door to the Fire Station, I didn't even hear the siren go off. In fact, I slept through the whole thing. It wasn't until later that morning that I found out what had happened. @=)

Mags - how did you sleep through
that?
kathleen's house in Clermont was
behind Crilly's, and I don't think
that was too far back from Charlotte St.

Thanks for that information under the picture. I didn't realised that Rose Cottage was the original clubhouse: I was born there.
