She was a Newry girl, was in my class at OLS for a couple of years, then left to go to Newry Tech. I remember her as one of the nicest girls in my class and we were all sorry to see her go.
The next time I saw her she was married to your cousin. She sadly died far too young, some years ago. You'll know now who it is - can you find her now?

It's not Coral Magennis, but you have the right surname! I'm not sure about Deirdre Gallagher, she was younger than me & I don't remember her at OLS.

Thanks for the help, would not have recognised her without assistance ( 2nd from the right middle row ?)............a very courageous girl and as you say a very good friend.

That's her, northbrook. Yvonne Connell, a lovely girl with a lovely nature. Do you know anything about her brother? He was a brilliant cartoonist & Yvonne used to bring some of his work to school. I often wondered if he made it his career?

Yvonne Connell, didn't she live right down from Our Lady's? So sad to hear about her. I love this site, the beautiful photos, catching up with old (well not that old) friends and acquaintances and the wonderful stories about those youthful days spent there. But, sometimes I become so saddened when I hear about the deaths of those who, in my mind, are still forever young.
And B&B, thanks for those new versions of the pictures. Now I can see them much better but unfortunately, while I can recognize faces, I have a hard time putting names to some of them. Besides those already mentioned, I see Irene McGrath from Rostrevor in same row as Margaret Mackin.

SLG- you are like me. I know the face but sometimes the names just don't
come to me. I love these old pictures too. I had two sisters at
Our Lady's and I used to hear them say how strict it was. Especially
when the older one was going.
I had my mind made up from an early age I wanted to be a typist and
that was what I became. I would have loved to have continued my 3rd year
at Newry Tech but when the job at Reeds came up I had no choice but to take it.
Oh well that was l959 and things have changed.
Northbrook - your sister Bernadette and I were good friends at Newry Tech how is
she doing?
I still don't know if there are any Newry Tech pictures out there but I do remember
one of the teachers taking a photo of us in the classroom, so it is probably out there
somewhere.

Yes, it was Maurice. I didn't know he taught in St Marks, not surprised it was Art though!

Yes, Yvonne lived somewhere around Edward St.
Me too, Pat! All of my class are in these photos & whilst I can name some of them I thought I would remember them all forever.....I don't! And yes, that's Irene. I'll have to read through the posts & see who's missing from the list, then I'll add all of them.

I remember her as a child, gap. She was a very pretty wee girl. I'm just not 100% sure of her in the photo - I thought at first it might be Pauline Barry, but I think she's too young to have been at OLS at that time?
I remember Ignatius very well although I haven't seen him for years - a very handsome lad!

B&B - the girl you thought was D.Gallagher is definitely a Barry. I thought
Angela but it is Pauline.
D. Gallagher wore braids not as long as those and she was much blonder.
Her brother had blonde curly hair.
They were very well behaved children growing up.
Sorry to hear she had died.

So my first instinct was right. I was hoping it might be Deirdre so gap could see what she looked like.

Do any of you older folk know who the girl in the vertical-striped dress is in the 1st photo & also wearing the blazer at Edawrd St station? Or the girl in the flowery frock in the 2nd one?

B&B - another great photo, knew Lillian, Mairead and Angela Heatley but the other girls
no.
Nice to see the Edward St sign in the photo. Lillian looked so much like her Dad.

yeah, our Mary was just confirming that too.... that D.Gallagher lived in Kilkeel and went to St.Louis - that the person in question is Pauline Barry as someone else stated, that D.Gallagher wore her hair in neat plaits but had v.dark hair - almost black.
