Get Active Down & Armagh facebook page have teamed up with Active Financial for this years launch of the ‘Be Bright - Be Safe- Be Seen ' road safety campaign message to alert members of the public to the additional safety measures we must consider throughout the winter months. “The campaign is aimed at all road users; pedestrians, cyclists’ runners and drivers of all types of vehicles, to highlight the importance of being extra-cautious throughout the autumn and winter months. Most cyclists , pedestrians and runners don't realise that they are virtually invisible at dusk, dawn, and at night. Many figure that since they can see, they can be seen. Unfortunately, motorists have an extremely hard time seeing people in poor lighting condition. not only does it get darker earlier at this time of year and stay darker for longer, the weather conditions also add to the problems.
Spokesperson for the campaign Kevin Gallagher said we need to make sure we are safe and can be seen by drivers as a person wearing reflective clothing can be seen by a driver using dipped headlights up to 200 metres away, but the same pedestrian only wearing dark clothes could be just 10 metres from the car before the driver sees them.
'Be bright, be safe, be seen' is a very important message that we all can be an example to our children by wearing our reflective gear and showing them that we have to wear this in the early mornings and dark evenings to be safe and seen. We can help keep our children safe on route to school and in play with many products like reflective armbands, Clip-on reflectors, and stickers on clothes or school bags to improve visibility, reflective strips can be bought to stick on bags and clothes . The campaign will also team up with businesses in the area that stock all items of reflective gear, headlights and cycling lights and post on the Get Active Down Armagh facebook page so the public can be aware of what can be got locally to cater to everyone.
Active Financial have kindly sponsored this years campaign and have given Get Active Down Armagh a Garmin Forerunner 230 as a prize as well as support for leaflets that will be given out around the area to clubs /schools etc to highlight the need for us all to wear reflective gear and lights and to show our own kids that this is the way to go and be safe.
. All you have to do to enter is take a photo wearing reflective gear and lights and PM the photo at http://www.facebook.com/getactivedownarmagh
Please support our campaign and by taking part you are spreading the word of this very important message . If you see a fellow cyclist, walker or runner not wearing reflective gear or lights while out in the dark of the morning or night just let them know the danger of not having it .....by wearing your reflective gear and lights,be an example …
