Anyone that has used the Burren road this past couple of weeks will have noticed that development work has started on a site, situated across the road from the back entrance to St Mark's. I believe it is a housing development but I'm not sure how extensive. These pictires from 'Google' were taken some time ago before work commenced.

Its a mixture of houses, apartments and social housing I'm told.

Thanks Richard, I wonder how they will fare trying to sell houses or apartments given the current financial situation. As for social housing I know there is a long waiting list so they will probably be allocated easily !

Would this be the development about which a number of meetings have been held involving councillors and planners etc. over the past year or so?

I think it's in the vicinity of 51 Burren Road and there has been a long saga between Kelly Bros and Planning Service, Council and local objectors if it's the site I'm thinking of. The social housing element is essential at the moment in order to get the planning application through under article 40 of the Planning Order to ensure there is mixed tenure. This is quite an old regulation that was largely ignored in the past. The review of affordable housing a few years ago made it a big issue.
