Im currently doing a piece of research of the very enigmatic Captain Frank Hall. A very controversial man!

Having major problems sourcing a photo. I not theres one here with him as a child. Is there any floating about of the man in military garb or indeed anything?

Pretty much - he was very active here and was the first to sign the Ulster Covenant at Narrowwater there are a few articles about him on line

http://ulster-scots.co.uk/docs/articles/historical/uvfmi5.htm

But I do know some of his relatives personally so I'll speak with them during the week.

Attached is another summary of Frank Hall taken from a USCN booklet on the Ulster Volunteer Force.

His military intelligence career- particularly his code name being 'Q' (Ian Fleming later utlising that particular letter- coincidently??) and his interaction with Roger Casement- is intriguing.

Confused, the picture states Major Frank hall but you state captain? as I have a picture of Major Hall RA. I have unnamed pictures too and not got around to asking. Bill gave Brian a copy of a few of them which I have . I post it here in case it is him.

That central image would have been i believe Roger Hall's father, William James Hall who was a Major in the Royal Artillery.

My understanding of the Hall family tree- and it gets complex because of remarriages and people 'dying without issue'- is that Roger Hall was a child of two (the Roger and Bill in that image) in William James Hall's first marriage, while Francis Hall (Frank) came from a second marriage.

Roger Hall born 1864 and brother William (Bill) 1866
Frank born 1876

Then Frank himself had two marriages with no children in either.

Is this correct??

Frank i beleive is the child directly under major Hall in that photo. Theres another of the photos posted with him in a dress- common practise with young boys i beleive.

Yes, Frank is the child right in the bottom of the photo - There is a drawing in the games/snooker room of a man in a soldiers uniform that fits the dates - could you ask Marcus if that is Frank or another relative? I might be down there myself over the weekend anyway I'll be talking to him hopefully if you don't see him before I do.

That's it - I know Marcus told me who it was, but for the life of me I can't remember.

Dragonfly - These are great photos of the
Hall Family.
Would you mind me asking you, are you

Thanks for the continued efforts Brian. I havent slacked in my 'howking'. An image of this guy is elusive as hell, which is very strange given his relatively high profile and subsequent high level military career
