Hall Family Photographs

#1 Post by Brian » Tue Mar 05, 2013 2:21 pm

Thanks go to Bill Hall for allowing us to view these quite fascinating photographs. More will follow in the next few days and weeks.

Image
Mrs Roger Hall (Marie) Bill Hall and Christian Hall waiting for a train at the halt

Image
The family would often put on plays outside using the front porch as a make shift stage, this photo shows one of the costumes they used. This photo features Mrs Roger Hall (Marie) taken at Greenpark in Rostrevor.

The following are taken from printed scanned copies reproduced here as I got them - we hope to be able to add names soon.

Image
The young man in the girls dress (standard Victorian practice at the time) at the bottom is Frank Hall who later on grew up to be Edward Carson's secretary (first signatory on the Ulster Covenant)

Road trip in the war years, Bill remembers travelling by pony and trap down to the airfield at Cranfield and running the trap up and down the runways,
much to the annoyance of incoming Marauder aircraft that would flash their lights at him to tell him to get off the runway as they were coming in to land.
In the photo we have (L-R) Christian, (Bill on trap) Noel, Roger and Jessie the pony

Same day and the family are supposed to be stooking corn (with Jessie looking over the hedge)

Well done Brian.

I have recently been reading
the Hall family history in
Warrenpoint, and now to be able
to see these photographs is the
icing on the cake.

The second last photo looks like the family are travelling up the Grinan Road, just up past the Mill Dam. Terrific photo's.

Old Crossley Tourer -
From left to right - Madge Crawford from Warrenpoint (Children's Governess who's nickname was "crow") Peggy, Christian ("granny Patron" from Gibraltar) Aunt "Feeny" (Josephine) and Maura. Interestingly this car and the family went from Capetown to Alexandria across Africa in the early 30's for 3 years.

The Folly or "hidden castle" (before the tree's grew up and surrounded it) - Bill tells me that there are a few holes in the castle, caused by bazooka rounds fired by the US soldiers who used it for target practice during the 2nd world war
