Hi StLouisGuy

Good picture. One of General Ross's tunics is preserved at the Museum of the Royal Lancashire Regiment, which fought at Washington. Ross limited himself to burning public buildings in Washington, however before the White House was torched members of the Regiment stole furniture and crockery and had it shipped back to England. It ended up in their Museum but was then moved to the Imperial War Museum's collection due to lack of storage space. In 2006 George W. Bush tried to leverage the "special relationship" between the UK and US to have the furniture returned - the post contains the delightful phrase " Dubya has asked his good buddy Tony for his chairs back" :D See http://postmanpatel.blogspot.co.uk/2006_10_08_archive.html
