Thanks to Gerard McGuigan for the following pictures showing various parts of Newry as it changed shape in the early 90's.

My heads wreaked trying to think where they all are and some I do know and others look familiar. Be cool if the street names where under the pics.

A wonderful collection of memories there. Great that someone took the time to capture them before they disappeared forever.

Those photo's are gold dust. It's going to take a while to work out where they all are but I recognize quite a few of them.

I note with great regret photo 38 of the site of the former Bootlegger Bar ( Site of Gatsby's Disco too) where I spent rather too much time many years ago !

Some of these look a little earlier than early 1990's though does anybody think?

No: 53 Mc Combe's Garage was on what was known as the Middle Bank [between the Clanrye River and Newry Canal] and was accessed between the Townhall and what then was Newry Tech. I think Mc Combe's was a working working garage until fairly recently, there was also a coal distribution company beside them owned by some people from the Banbridge area and I can't remember but the company may have been Thompsons. A very nice looking brunette was the receptionist back in the 1950's --- Ahh dream on old man. Donaghaguy{Wim]

I have just been looking through these again as I am trying to get some pictures together to print off for my mum who has dementia and thinks she is 16 again so talking about Newry makes her happy again. I am very grateful for these as she lived in Sugar House Quay and her best friend Olive McKenna lived in Sugar Island. Does anyone have any photos of the fair run by the Bosco boys as she use to love going to this, also there was an ice cream parlour/chip shop in Newry but I don't know the name, but know she loved to go there too. Any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks, Linda.

Thanks Gerard
Really appreciate your contribution of photos from times gone bye. You have preserved some history by this medium.. Probably would have been lost otherwise.

Deirdre
