Map of the area from 1600 (From the British Library collection) shows some clan names (interesting and food for thought on how Clonallon got its name?) and a clearly drawn route from Co Louth that crosses at Narrow Water.

Brian, Have you seen "Across the Narrow Water"?...a short history on the First Presbyterian Church (Non-Subscribing)?
The first church in the town, and it may have been at Narrow Water and linked to Carlingford.

Brian

I always thought that Clonallon was the Anglicised version of Cluain Dalláin, which means Dallan's Meadow. Do you have any more details about the Clan Allen mentioned on the map?

I always thought the same - could indeed be the reason for the name and there just happened to be a clan Allen in the area also (as there is today!) I just like playing devils advocate now and again :D
