When doing a little research I came across this link:

According to this article the American 5th Infantry Division, United States Army had it's Red Cross Club at the side of St David's buildings beside the Methodist church.


The attachment shows the mural they painted on the wall (as the article says I assume its long gone)

I remember when the yanks
were there..
I had a cousin who worked
there and at Ballyedmond..
I was a primary school girl
then..
I still can see their open topped
Jeeps go down Church Street..
Those were the days..
