Equipment Stolen

#1 Post by Brian » Thu Jul 05, 2018 11:57 am

Yesterday morning we discovered that our securely locked container storage unit situated at our former growing area at the Newry road end of Warrenpoint Port's estate had been broken into and all of our gardening equipment stolen. Police and Warrenpoint Port's security personnel were immediately informed and our insurers notified in the event of having to make a claim for the loss.

Unfortunately, it has been pointed out to us that we are covered only by public liability and employers insurance which means we are not covered by a theft or loss of the charity's equipment. This theft, and the fact that someone could attack our community in such a despicable way, has shocked us. It has stopped us in our tracks and is a severe blow to those in our community whose sense of well-being and contentment in their own personal surroundings has been so thoughtlessly curtailed by this outrageous action.

It is an assault on the senior citizens, the vulnerable and those with disabilities in our community and a complete disregard for those who work tirelessly to help make our community a place to live in and be proud of.
The items that were stolen from the lock-up included strimmers, lawnmowers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers and a large selection of hand tools. Their bulk dictated the use of a vehicle larger than a motorcar so someone might have seen something suspicious or out of the ordinary while work was being carried out on that area of Warrenpoint Port's estate. If anyone is offered gardening tools cheaply, please inform the police.

We need to get back to work as quickly as possible and the only way we can think of in the midst of this awful occurrence is to appeal to our generous and supportive following. We have been advised to open a "go fund me" page to help us toward that aim and although we have never felt the need to resort to this method of fundraising before, in this instance, we don't think we have any other choice. Please help us overcome the effect this unconscionable act has had on our Charity and on the most deserving in our community of Warrenpoint.

Details of the Go Fund Me Page will be posted shortly.

Dreadful. Rostrevor Men's Shed will be taking a look at what we have to lend the Patchers until they get sorted out.
