Post subject:  Press Release 7th August

Narrow Water Bridge Community Network response to Leo Varadkar's speech in Queens University. The work to make the Narrow Water Bridge a reality goes on.
PRESS RELEASE
Jim Boylan, Chairman of the Narrow Water Bridge Community Network, fully endorsed the tone and content of the speech delivered by Leo Varadkar on his first visit to Belfast as Taoiseach on Friday last. Boylan also welcomed the inclusion of the Narrow Water Bridge in a number of important infrastructural projects to be considered as part of his ten-year capital plan that will benefit people and businesses in both parts of Ireland.
Boylan who has championed the cause of the Narrow Water Bridge for many years is now convinced that the bridge will be built. The case for the bridge, he maintains, is well understood and has the wide support of political parties North and South. The only thing standing in the way is the absence of an executive at Stormont. The Narrow Water Bridge, according to Boylan, will also give literal expression to the Taoiseach’s claim that we need bridges not walls in the Brexit era. Border communities by their nature tend to suffer disproportionately when barriers go up and the Warrenpoint and South Down area have lost out to investment generally and the provision of appropriate tourism infrastructure in particular down the years. The potential for an area that has underperformed, sharing little of the peace dividend in the last two decades, to suddenly improve post Brexit is hard to imagine says Boylan.
