Statement from the Minister for Infrastructure

#1 Post by Brian » Wed Jan 25, 2017 5:57 pm

NWBCN welcome the recent statement from the Minister for Infrastructure Mr Chris Hazzard, Sinn Féin who confirmed that Narrow Water Bridge and the Ulster Canal "could move to construction of the preferred solution in 2019, subject to completion of further community engagement and statutory procedures”. He went on to say that “these projects could be truly transformative, unlocking the economic and, in particular, the tourism potential of their local areas”.

We are further delighted that in the words of the minister ” significant progress has been made on both projects over recent months through working with my ministerial colleagues in the south and with key stakeholders”. Minister Hazzard asserted that he is determined that this project is taken forward as a priority with a view to reaching early agreement and enabling construction to begin by 2019 subject to funding and statutory procedures.

Members of Narrow Water Bridge Community Network have recently been involved in meetings in both jurisdictions in an effort to ensure that the ‘bridge becomes a reality. We would ask all supporters to ask the politicians on the doorstep during the coming election to commit to playing their part in ensuring the construction of this vital piece of infrastructure for our area
