Statement 05-08-14

#1 Post by Brian » Mon Aug 04, 2014 10:52 pm

Narrow Water Bridge Action Group is overwhelmed by the number of its supporters, political, business and members of the public who took the time to respond to the Special European Union Programmes Board (SEUPB) consultation on the next round of INTERREG funding. We must wait until the end of September to see the outcome of the SEUPB’s deliberations. It should be remembered that it was this fund that granted the Narrow Water Bridge Project €14 million in the last round that was lost due to the mismatch between the funds available and the tenders received from the civil engineering companies.

The NWBAG remains very optimistic that the bridge will be completed during this next round of funding. We have in the bridge ‘a shovel ready project’. We will hold the Taoiseach Enda Kenny to his words that the Narrow Water Bridge project will be high on the agenda of the next North South Ministerial Conference.

Again we encourage everyone to take every opportunity to approach our elected representatives to ensure that the Narrow Water Bridge is to the forefront of their thoughts and efforts.

The Narrow Water Bridge Action Group continues to lobby politicians, both local and national, and local authority executives on both sides of the border to make ensure that every action necessary to the success of the project is taken.

Should Funds be forthcoming, can we hope
to see the issue reach the level of
Ministerial discussion, this time around.
