Brian,

Any news on the Bridge Project?

Things seem very quiet.

Is the people's Bridge still a viable entity Brian ? .. when last I spoke to Jim Boylan he appeared very defeatest [ I did check and Everton where still in the Cup at the time..so it had to be the Bridge ]..Sammy Wilson on the other hand was the picture of rude good heallth when I saw him jousting with Paul Clarke on UTV the other evening....even landing several stinging riposte's during the exchange ........

I see somebody must have thought it was there already. A nice gap in the fence at the start of roundabout.....

I hope they were OK.

As ever with such things political the DUP don't like it but until such time as there is a quid pro quo from Sinn Fein to balance it with they will keep things up in the air. Not very nice but it's how things work...........

Noticed an update on the the bridge on Wesley Johnstons 'Northern Ireland Roads' website in which he refers to a recent written answer at Stormont. I looked up the document in question, in Hansard dated 8th February 2013:

'Narrow Water Bridge Project

Mr Allister
asked the Minister for Regional Development in relation to the Narrow Water bridge project,
which agency will be responsible for the maintenance of (i) the bridge; and (ii) the link road to the
bridge from the roundabout on the Northern Ireland side, and will the link road and bridge, or any part
thereof, be adopted by Roads Service.

(AQW 19003/11-15)
Mr Kennedy:
The Narrow Water Bridge project is being progressed by Louth County Council, in
partnership with Newry and Mourne District Council and East Border Region Limited.
The operation and maintenance of the bridge, together with maintenance of the link road from the
existing roundabout to the bridge, will be carried out by Newry and Mourne District Council (through an agreement with Louth County Council).
No part of the bridge or link road would be adopted by Roads Service.'

Well, at least Minister Kennedy is referring to the bridge in a positive manner , i.e. using terms like 'is being' and 'will be' etc. I'm Just hoping Minister Wilson comes up with the funds required from the Northern side........sooner rather than later.
